Conditions to Improve for Cyclists

August 23, 2018 – Press release: City Creek Canyon will be closed to the public from August 27 through August 29 to accommodate a repaving and pothole patching project of the popular watershed road frequented by walkers, runners, bicyclists and picnickers.

The upper canyon road above the Salt Lake City Department of Public Utilities water treatment plant will close all day on Monday, August 27. Crews will fill numerous potholes that have created hazards for bicyclists and motor vehicles. The work will begin by 6 a.m. and continue until dark.
 
The entrance road into the canyon at Bonneville Drive and the main parking lot will be closed on August 28 and 29 from 6 a.m. until dark. Crews will mill away crumbling asphalt, then repave and restripe parking spaces.
 
The canyon will reopen on Thursday, August 30 and resume the regular “odd-even” schedule through Labor Day. Bicycles are allowed, but motor vehicles are prohibited on odd calendar days. Motor vehicles, but no bikes are permitted on even days. Walkers and runners are allowed every day.
 
Between Labor Day and Memorial Day, there are no calendar-day use restrictions in the Canyon.
